Help! Momma Chicken left her egg after sittin on it for about 3 weeks!

I got my incubator up to 100, got tape on my vents and put the egg inside! I went to lock up the pen and my momma hen is in her box! Now, I feel awful cause I took her babe! I am thinking that she knew it was hot enough out today that she didn't need to sit on it and now that is night, she does! Now my girls wanna put it back in the nesting box! If it doesn't hatch I am gonna feel like it is my fault!!

if she is still in there you could put it back out under her . very likely she isnt gonna move cause its dark & just go out in the morning & see if she is still on it . she could still tend to it after it hatches. good luck

So what happened? Is she still on the egg this morning? This is like a movie, waiting to see what happens next!

No, Hannah was not sitting on her egg this morning! I picked up to egg to feel its temp and it was cool but I could feel the baby moving! Plus, I put it up to my ear and I could hear a little pecking noise! So I got so excited!! With the egg being cool and it being 82 outside this morning I put the egg back into the incubator! I have know idea how to use this darn thing, I really hoped she was gonna continue to sit on it! Oh, well I have water in my incubator, temp up to 99-100 and a baby inside the egg! Only thing is the humidity, I don't have any cool what I am doing here! The family that gave me the chicken and incubator didn't give me a wet bulb so I didn't know I needed one till yesterday and my local farm store doesn't carry them! Well, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed! I know we have a baby so it's just time to wait!! But now I feel like it something goes wrong it's mine or the incubators fault! I hope everything turns out ok! I can't wait for this little thing to hatch!!

You definately shouldn't feel like it is your fault if anything goes wrong! If it weren't for you the chickie probably wouldn't have a chance at all. You are doing everything you can for it. Well, keep us updated, I love a good story!

Thanks!! Well having this egg in the incubator is driving me crazy! I keep going on looking to the little viewing windows! I can't wait!! But I have been thinking if I could rig up Hannah's nesting box so that she has to stay in it, should I do it? I mean should I make Hannah set on her egg or just go ahead and leave it in the incubator?

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that.

Who knows, maybe Mama Montana knew that there was something wrong with it and that is why she abandoned it? I don't even know if chickens do that but it kind of makes sense.
