Boy is that one gonna be funny to show his future wife when he gets older!!

Alcohol works pretty well (as I used to have to remind students about half a jillion times when they would pick up a sharpie to label testtubes or vials with alcohol-preserved specimens or alcohol extractions of chlorophyll in them). It doesn't take sharpie off of skin quite as fast as it takes it off of labels or glassware -- one drop or splash and presto you have NO way of telling what was in there

-- but with a bit of rubbing it will come mostly off and a day or two later the rest will have disappeared.

But I am also with those who think that making him wear it for a while might be instructive

I remember when I was teaching summer riding camp at a hunter barn, many years ago, and two of the boarder kids (with expensive hunter ponies) used livestock crayons and 'washable' hairdye to write graffiti all over their [white!] ponies for a costume class in the camp horse show. The day before a weekend-long A-rated hunter show. You can pretty much figure out how that one worked

Their trainer would not let them go to the show as he did not want to be associated with sending something like that into the show-ring -- and also I expect he figured that forfeiting prepaid entry, stall and vanning fees would cause the kids' parents to motivate them never EVER to do such a thing again.

The rest of us thought it was pretty funny though

Good luck with the sharpie,

Pat

Okay, here you go...I just called the 800 number for Sharpie (1-800-323-0749). The lady said to use rubbing alcohol.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet since I didn't read all 7 pages, but I've been able to get Sharpie off our wooden desk using rubbing alcohol. Good luck!

This is living proof why chickens can't have sharpies in their coops. If kids can do this kind of damage think about a chicken with a fetish for "tagging". You could wake up in the morning with your front windows written on with the words "We demand More worms, bubble baths and feather beds".

WD-40 works on surfaces, I'd try something like noxema on the kiddo's face. My kids have only written on body parts that didn't much matter, like legs; but they have got:

the bookcases
my dresser
the kitchen table
the walls
the carpet
the handmade rocker
the hardwood floor

I know a swimmming pool won't work. We mark swim meet events on kids arms with sharpies. Sometimes sunscreen will take it off. Mostly it has to wear off.

Hand sanitizer will take it off of hard surfaces (it's mostly alcohol.) I'm sure it would take some of it off of skin.

I feel your pain, my daughter was also a Sharpie enthusiast.

Just keep him away from scissors!

Thanks for all the great help! I was able to get it off that night with a combo of rubbing alcohol and waterproof eye make-up remover. My plan was to take a pic that night while he was sleeping but the last ditch effort worked. He marched in the parade just fine.

HOWEVER, on the 5th of July he painted our 3 1/2 year old neighbor girl with exterior white paint. The neighbors called to inform me of his help in white washing her and it was too late for a pic of her, since she went promptly in the shower.

Aren't you glad you don't live by me?!!!!
