I think that it could have been the yolk. I thought it was extremely similar. When all of the yellow came out there was also a little bit of blood on the tip of something fleshy. It could be a small intestine. Its not pulled out except maybe a 8th of an inche. I disifected it too. And tried to very gently push the very little bit of flesh too. If the chick makes it through could there be problems in the long run with the intestine?

Its 4 days old.

The yolk should be absorbed by then. Chicks generally survive 3 days without food because the yolk sac is giving them all of their nutrition.

This chick is pretty small. It could have been hatched a day later. The stuff really looked and felt like a yolk.

It sounds like you pulled off the navel and yolk is seeping out. Put some idodine on it to help it dry. The navel is a little farther down from the vent, more under the belly. It takes time to dry and fall off completely.
