HELP MY baby DUCKING IS WALKING ODDLY :(

I love seeing mommies and their babies out for a stroll. When I lived in Virginia, we had a mallard family nest and hatch a clutch of eggs in the drainage ditch behind my apartment. I actually chased off a marauding drake during breeding season. Maybe that's why they stuck around, since I helped protect the female and the drake saw me. Do you think they put that sort of thing together?

Yes, I do believe they do, as I had one of my little ducklings get trapped in some fence wire and I do not know how long she was in there, but when I found her mum was frantically waddling up and down, beside her self, so when I rescued her the mum who is usually very protective and snappy, didn't even snap at me and now she make non attempt to snap at me, she lets me pick her babies up and I think it is because I helped her baby! Yes, I have moved the wire...just didn't think about the duckling trying to go thru it...

The drake and duck were actually in combat with the marauder when I heard a ruccous. I went outside to see what was going on, and chased the would-be rapist away! It paid off, I got to see the mother with her ducklings after they hatched. It's like she was parading them in front of my door as if to say "look what you did for us!"

I'd go ahead and take the left over eggs, once she gets up and leaves that means she is done and the rest aren't going to hatch, you can listen to make sure but mums usually know. Love the pics, so precious. And Congrats on the 7 keets too.

Thanks Miss Lydia, I have removed the eggs now both from the duck and foster mum.....7 each is enough now and I have given them time to hatch :)
