Help! My buff geese are suddenly sick!

Hey everyone! I went to let my geese out this morning and Priscilla, my female buff, was just laying there pretty lethargic. My male, Herbie, seemed fine and like his normal self. I picked up Priscilla and brought her over to the water and she was willingly drinking and seemed quite thirsty- they went into bed at a normal time so I’m not sure what happened over the course of the night or if it’s something that happened prior.
Now they are both acting somewhat lethargic, drooling and seemingly full of water, not eating, and their eyes are kind of halfway closed. I’m extremely worried and unfortunately my avian vet can’t get them in until tomorrow. So far I’ve given them Save-a-chick and I don’t know what else to do. It was quite hot yesterday but they always have access to several different kiddie pools I have set out on our property, we also have tons of shade available for them.
If anyone has any other suggestions of what I can offer them, etc please let me know. I’m worried sick!!
I also tried massaging their crop/chests a little bit as well. They are extremely friendly and seriously like my little babies. Both of them were hatched at the beginning of April, and I bought them from Metzer farms.

I also would like to add that my male Herbie actually seems to be doing better than the female, but seems to be worried about Priscilla. He’s not really eating either and is laying with her but it walking around just fine and drinking on his own etc.

It sounds like they have some sort of respiratory illness, without knowing the cause it’s hard to say what to do. It’s good that you are giving save a chick, you could crush a bit of garlic into their water to work as a natural antibiotic, if it’s a bacterial infection they’ll priabably need a round of antibiotics though.

Thank you! I will do that absolutely. I found another emergency avian vet and was able to get them in for this evening.

@Lindseamthorn, hope they recovered well. 🤞

Two of my geese have been lethargic for the past 3 days very similar to yours. What was the diagnosis from the vet & what meds did the vet prescribe to get them back into good health?

Posting a new thread with as much information as you can in this forum or emergencies might help. OP might not be active here.

Lethargy unfortunatly is really vague, it’s one of those symptoms that happens with every sickness so it’s hard to say. A vet can get to the bottom of what it is but if that isn’t an option you can always try the basics, worm, add vitamins and probiotics, apple cider vinegar, VetrX, and maybe give them a round of corid.

So sorry, I hope they're OK. My vet said they can be poisoned easily with burdock or nightshade so check your yard. Again I hope they're OK.
