Help! My chicken ate my diamond earring!

I'm not joking! My 4 month old pullet jumped on my back and ate my diamond earring right off my ear!! It wasn't a huge stone, but I am worried about the post part of the earring passing through her system.

Questions:
1. How concerned should I be about my earring doing damage to my chicken's insides as it passes through her system?
2. How long till it passes through her system? I am assuming I can watch for it coming out the other side in due time.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Umm... Im not positive but I think It won't hurt her, and as for the time, I would say a day or so... I think that is about how often they poop, sometimes more. If you want to be sure that you get it back, I would isolate her to a place where there is no poop so you can find it. If it does come out, have fun picking it out of the poop!

Chickens eat all kinds of things... including rocks, nuts, bolts, nails if they can find them. I would be worried about the stone's setting myself. It may pass, or it may be kept in the gizzard and used with rocks to grind up food. I've found all kinds of weird things in gizzards when I butcher birds.

I suppose you can expect it to pass in anywhere from a day to weeks later minus any metal if it is soft. If one of my birds ate my earring... well mine aren't really pets so I would probably be having chicken dinner!

I am sorry, this could be really bad for her. I don't have any advice for you, but keep us posted. I quit wearing any jewelry around my girls for that very reason, they peck at my rings and I was worried about losing a stone...that is crazy that she just took it right off of your ear.

I would place said pullet in a mini brooder/cage (whatever you have) with feed and water and wait for her to poop. Should pass in a day and it shouldn't hurt her.

You'll be one of the only people I know who has a chicken that can sh*t* diamonds lol.
