Help My Chicks are Dying

Yeah they replaced the one that died last night. I ended up with 4 because...chicken math. I’m very determined to save this one. I hate to see them die, they’re just babies. I’m doing everything I can.

Red horse, any recommendations on what I should use? I used them last year and none of my chicks died.

Yeah I’d love to get one of those heat things that they can just go under, but I just can’t afford it right now.

You can do the same thing with a heating pad for around $20.00. We have a whole thread called Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder that explains it, and it has a huge following. On my phone right now so can’t post a link, but you can either enter it in the “search” box or even Google it.

Check to make sure that your heat lamp isn’t Teflon coated. There’s extremely helpful information on here about that too, again found by doing a search. I sure hope that no matter what you find out, the rest of the chicks rally.

Can you explain the cedar wood chips comment? I'm using cedar wood shavings in my brooder. I haven't had problems yet but if it's bad I'd like to stop using them
Dear friend, cedar chips have a scent. That scent is hazardous to your birds respiratory system. I would not use them, just plain pine shavings work well. Use the cedar ones in a sock hanging in your clothes closet,, repels moths!
