The best way to gauge your temps is how the ducklings are acting. They're usually doing a lot of peeping if they're too cold and sometimes if they're too hot. If they're piling on top of each other and peeping loudly, it might be too cold. If they're all lethargic, laying around, panting, they're possibly too warm. It takes a while for the temp to become steady if you've just turned it on, so it'd be a good idea to check on them after a couple of hours. If you have to move the lamp, you'll need to check it again to make sure it's not too cold or hot. If that duckling is unable to move, I don't want it to overheat. It's really tricky when dealing with one like this. It could take a few days for the duckling to recover. Until then you can use a thermometer and judge the temp, but either way you'll want to keep a close eye on it. You can use the thermometer you have on hand right now to get an idea of the temp, but it'd be a good idea to get one that can stay in the brooder, especially while you've got one that's unable to move out of the heat/light or into it for warmth.
