I dont cook the oatmeal I give my crew here I let the tap water run for a bit till it starts to warm up and use the warm tap water to " cook" the oatmeal - this way it is not very hot and by the time I get out the door and down the steps to the chicken run it is cool enough I can give it to them right away without having to worry it was to hot.
sometimes I mix in the scracth for an extra treat, but mine only get scratch/cracked corn in the winter months.
