HELP!!! MY HEN'S TOE BLEEDING NONSTOP! Please someone :(

Theres a huge cut on my chicken's toe and it wont stop bleeding!! Its a pretty bad cut and I tried cornstarch but It still doesnt stop...I have it with its foot up in the air right now and putting pressure on it...I dont know what to do!!

can someone please help, its sunday and theres no avian vet avalible today I called like 30 vets.. its bleeding alot...

flour...corn starch...i have even heard that spider webs will help bind a wound....keep pressure on it....dont let up on the pressure at all..i had that happpen with my parrots beak..i was frantic..i had no time to even drive to a vet..i called one and they talked me through it..i thought it was taking to long to stop bleeding also...but they just said..keep the pressure on it...can you call an emergeny vet place?..they will talk you through it...i have quick stop in my house now...can you have someone run to a store to get some quicky?..

I'm definitely no expert, but from my first aid class you seem to be doing everything that you can. You just need to keep applying pressure until the blood has time to clot, then you'll have to keep the foot bandaged pretty tightly, but not so tight that it cuts off circulation to the toes. Once the bleeding stops get some gauze pads and wrap. (There's a type of wrap that is stretchy and sticks to itself, but not to the skin. You can get a pretty tight bandage with that. It usually comes in bright colors, but I don't know what it's called.)

Grab some corn starch or flour and pile it up on the toe so it will start to clot.

I also read that a cold compress will help.
When you do get the bleeding stopped see if she will eat some scrambled egg then let her rest in a quiet spot by herself because she may really be stressed.
You may want to invest in some blucote (sp)from tractor supply or feed stores. I read it helps keep insects off as well as fight infection.
Calm down , your being a great chickie mom, its going to be fine.

Styptic powder for men's faces or dog's toenails for superficial wounds is fine- don't put into deep body wounds. Corn starch works ok, but not as well. Cover with cotton ball and hold pressure on for 5-0 min. Try a bandaid or strip of tape to hold it on. Then after the bleeding has stopped inspect to see what the wound looks like. Cover the chicken's head with a towel to calm her, or tuck her head under her wing, calm chicken = decreased bloodpressure, less bleeding.

Also know that a chicken can lose alot of blood and be fine. If it has been a few tablespoons, that is not much.

I found some powder for dogs toenails and it worked really well, the bleeding seems to have stopped and i bandaged her up and now shes resting in the bathroom.

Thank you all so much, my heart was about to jump out from the amount of blood that was coming from her toe..

I have no idea how she got that cut but when I found her, she was layin down with a blood under her, took me forever to find that cut! My cousin had to hold her down and kept screaming and crying "shes going to die shes going to die!" which made me sorta disoriented.

thanks again everyone!!! I hope shes does better, she seems kinda..shocked and isnt moving much. I gave her water and some scrambled eggs, she ate it all which made me feel better
