Help my rooster is eating himself!!

Quote:

I have put him in a crate in a dim room and he has quieted but I don't know if I can do this dubbing this by myself (I would need another set of hands) or if I should do it?
Do you guys think this is the only way to go with him?

Years ago when I was a child, My dad used to to this to his roosters. My mom would get so mad at Dad for "using her good Scissors"
I am no expert. I looked at the link posted. Seems pretty straight forward. It would sure keep him from eating his wattles. Not sure if they would grow back. If it were me, I would do it being as he won't leave them alone. If they got frost bit they may die back any way. That could pose a whole new set of problems. Good luck, keep us posted.

they wont grow back if you dub them,,, and dubbing is common in some breeds,, specially up north where its cold,,, and gamecocks, are supposed to be dubbed to show. it is an extreme in some points,, but not as extreme to what he's doing to himself, for whatever the reason.

... two actually.

Well I am in a very cold climate and this might save him from getting the wounds he is inflicting infected.
Sounds like dubbing might be the only way to go, I just hope it's not painful for him. The website said it was not painful but I googled it any seems like many oppose doing this?
In my case it seems the right thing to do, as I don't see him leaving it alone.

I'll put my two cents in for dubbing him. It isn't that bad...It might look like he will bleed to death but he won't. Do it at night or but him in a dark quiet spot after you do it...he should settle down and nature will take its course and he will be okay in a few hours.

The opposition comes from some of the origins of the practice...look at it like circumcition...removing a little skin...

many believe it is painful... But you can ask ANYONE who dubs.. and its not painful. or at least they dont kick scream, cry, or anything like that... so theres no way to tell
