Help my rooster is eating himself!!

Thanks guys, just looking at the waddles now and there basically hamburger meat.
Does everyone to this with very sharp scissors or can you use a sharp knife. I ask because I don't have a pair a scissors that I think are sharp enough.

If they are frost bit, won't the nerves be either dead or dying. So either way it should be less painful. If in doubt maybe holding ice to each one for a few min. would numb the area.

Scissors are easier but if all you have is a knife...if you know how to handle one well and it is sharp lots of folks do it that way as well...but being that you haven't done it and are worried...use scissors

Guess, I'm off to get a nice sharp pair of scissors I needed them anyway. I will wait until fiance comes so one of us can securely hold him while the other performs the procedure.
Any other advice or tips about this procedure would be greatly welcomed.

its going to look a bit weird once you cut the wattles.. you'll be able to see his throat pretty much, so if you want you could trim JUST ENOUGH that he couldn't reach them

PS. get surgical scisssors. seem to work the best

My only other advise is above. Think of it as piercing someone ear (okay, I know its a stretch, but it might work-mind over matter) good luck kept us posted.

Oh I just thought of something...Get one of those Steptic sticks I thing thats what they are called. Guys use them if they cut themselves while shaving. That might help your nerves just knowing you have that on hand if you need it. Keep us posted.

Great info thank you! If there was frost bite he ate it, he ate the most of the lower portion of his waddles. His comb seems fine nice and red, but is quite large he is an RIR should I do this as well in your opinion, or leave it.
I have styptic powder and silver nitrate sticks ( cauterizing agent) to stop the bleeding.

Sounds like you have it covered...I would leave the comb for now...if it looked frost bit I would remove it or if it looks to be irritating him I would remove it...I actually am quilty of leaving them on my OEGB...it makes them look normal...for shows I will remove them...
