Hello all, I am quite shocked at what I’ve found today! I was out side with my chickens when I came across this quail thing. I believe it’s a partridge? But I’m not sure what to do with it or how to care for it. I have never even seen this kind of bird before in my life! I’m not sure if it had an owner or not, but I will ask around. Poor thing is probably so scared but I have no idea where it came from or how it even got into my yard! Ill attach some pictures but it would be a great deal if help if someone could help me out on what to do with it.

That looks like a chukar partridge. Where do you live OP? And it looks like it has had the top beak cut off to make it less likely to attack other partridge. Side pictures would help too

I live in southern California, and yea the top part of its beak looks broken of some sort. I can try to take some pics but I only have it in a small cage atm because I have no space for it. But I can try to take pics

Here’s some sorta side pics

I believe Southern California might have feral populations of chukar introduced there. However, with his beak cut, he is likely part of a breeding program. If you use social media, you could try to go on your city's facebook page and post about him. He has an owner somewhere

Yea that’s what I believed too. I just wasn’t sure what to do with him. But I am trying to reach out to some people to see if we can find anything more about it and if he belongs to anyone
