Fair point, but they react pretty much the same to high lectin feed as most farmed animals, it’s used preferably to other foods because of its ability to quickly fatten them up for saluter. Works great for humans too.
Lectins via a process of bio mimicry that I don’t fully understand cause you to store more proteins and carbohydrates as fat, our natural defences to them are damaged by the herbicide they are sprayed with to desiccate them just before harvest which enables them to puncture the gut wall, I’d be surprised if round up doesn’t have a similar effect on the microbiology of birds, it’s been patented as an antibiotic.
Then there are novel lectins taken from snow drops amongst others and inserted into food crops to increase bug resistance, no animal I can think of other than maybe roe deer have ever encountered these before so will see them as foreign and produce antibodies in response that cause all sorts of systemic problems for you and your birds as it gets into the eggs and meat.
I should have guessed this would cause controversy on a site where almost everyone feeds their birds with soya. The op appears to be having similar issues to those I’m contending with so I suggested chlorella because I thought it might help, it’s lectin free and grows without competition so doesn’t require the addition of herbicide.
It works great for me and my birds, the eggs taste completely different to when I was using an organic pellet feed, I’ve never tasted anything like it, they’re delicious.
