* HELP NEEDED!! * My hen has a prolapsed vent, please help me out if you can and give out some advice so I can save her!!

Hi there everyone,

My hen who is about a year old has suddenly gotten a prolapsed vent, I'm not sure what caused it but I'm really stressed out about it. I separated her from my other hens because they started pecking at her bloody vent that was hanging out and I didn't want them to pull her prolapsed vent out. She doesn't really show any common signs that I saw while searching up how to cure this like being huddled up with her feathers puffed up and looking tired, she's active, drinking water, and was also eating food a day after when I found out she had a prolapse. I gave her a lot of water when she was separated and I know I'm not supposed to really give her any food for about a day, but do I have to put anything in her water that will help her? Also the one thing that I really need someone to help me on is that she has dried poop/mud directly on her vent and I have no idea how to get it off her without hurting her vent ( I'm scared that if I pull the mud/poop off her prolapsed vent, it might tear off some parts of her vent and I might hurt her/damage her vent.) I tried using just water to get the mud/poop off her vent but it didn't work, so I just put a little bit of lube on her vent so it didn't dry out. Can someone please recommend me some products that might work on her vent to get it off? Will honey/ointment work to get it off possibly, and also will I need to cut off the pasted feathers around her vent?

I have never dealt with a prolapsed vent before with my little flock, and I really hope one of you guys here can help me since you all seem very helpful, and please tell me if I did anything wrong with trying to help her.
I'm really stressed out about this and I just need some help right now so any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I’m sorry that you are dealing with this! I have never dealt with prolapse but I’m sure there are old threads about treating it.
I know @azygous has dealt with prolapse though so hopefully she can help!

Thanks so so much for the article you sent!! I read it all and I understand what probably caused her to get a prolapsed vent in the first place and I'm also about to get some of the items you used to treat/cure it
I also wanted to know if I could use baby body wash to clean the dried mud on my hen's prolapsed vent? The dried poop didn't come off with me just using a wash-cloth and water on her, so I was thinking maybe the baby body wash would work but I'm not completely sure, if you can please let me know if I should or shouldn't use the baby body wash for her or if I should use something else to get rid of the dried poop on her vent
