They are shaking in tray. The bulb is only 7w not warm enough for them
it would be too drafty in bird cage for them .
just wish I had got everything in before theyhatched

Do you have a hot water bottle you could fill with hot water as a heat source? Or a heating pad? Or any other light bulb you could put in the lamp?

I read some where you can put the in a bowl with i lid and place a little cup in side with white vinger and bakeing soda it make a like gas chamber and they go quick the book is called Permaculture Chicken: Incubation Hand Book I got it on Kindle. Iam going to try to post a picture so you read it maybe off your computer. Here it is I hope it helps and Sorry that you have to do it.

Just for future information, while this will kill a chick, it's not a pleasant way to go. This kills them via suffocation with CO2. CO2 is the driving force behind breathing. If you hold your breath for awhile and then feel that overwhelming sense of needing to breathe, that's not because your body wants oxygen, it's because it's trying to expel the CO2 buildup.

So a chick killed in this way will feel like it's suffocating (because it is). It will be aware it's suffocating. It's not a nice way to go :( If the concentration isn't high enough to cause near immediate death, the chick will die slowly and painfully. Even with a higher concentration that puts the chick into a coma quickly, it will still cause convulsions.

A similar, better way to cull a chick is to use ether, which you can easily find in the form of starting fluid. Ether used to be used as an anesthetic in surgery for both humans and animals. It simply puts the birds to sleep, and then they die peacefully.

Its a totally different light bulb
do I just pit a djeet over one side?
No hot water bottle

This is the bulb

That Bulb is a 7w CFL, nowhere near big enough. You really need a 50w -100w bulb preferably halogen (not a CFL or LED). Does that bulb put off any heat at all when you touch it? Can you put it like 3 inches from them so they stay warm while you figure something else out?

Do you have any hand warmers? You can throw them in the box and they can huddle up next to them.

Can you put some small towels in the drier and warm them up then put them in the box for the chicks to huddle up against?

Why can't you put hot water in a mason jar, Tupperware container, mountain dew bottle then wrap a small towel around it and put in the box for them to huddle up to?

Can you go to Walmart and buy a 50 plus watt light bulb that fits in that lamp? Better yet they sell these... get one of them and a 75-250w bulb.

Do you have a hot water heater? It might possibly be warm enough on top of it to set a small box there....

Honestly if it was up to me I would kill the two chicks just like you did the other ones. Then we can have a real long discussion about everything that has transpired and we would come up with a solution so this never happens again.

I don't have a dryer or wallmart. I am in the uk
I can try get a halogen bulb today.
the chicks seem fine. Running round etc
I put them back in incubator then bring them out to run round but just take them out for to have a drink
I should get the brooder kit yoday or tomorrow

According to your first post the birds are now around 4 days old. They need constant access to water. I would keep some water inside the incubator even if it evaporates in a hour so. I would definitely get a bulb as soon as possible, do not wait on the brooder kit if it might be tomorrow.

We never used a broader box. Just a Rubbermaid tote with a heating lamp (red). TSC has cheap feeders that don't take up much room and feed for a few days constantly. Some ppl have rabbit waterers/drip waterers to prevent drowning. But I'd say they need more water than once an hour. You can you a lid with water. But will probably need to be refilled often. Good luck

I have 2 cardboard boxes. Ciuld you tell me which one will be suitable please?
