Wrong end. Didn’t see a beak at all. But didn’t see an internal pip either. I have three other wild ones hatched today in the bator raising hell. I read not to worry about that sort of thing on the hatch assist article but now that they’re dry should I remove the three? And could they have done this? It seemed not to even be split like it is now (the membrane) but very exposed. I swear I seen veins. But this was only twenty min ago. I put coconut oil on the exposed part. I did the candle and tap test heard a peep. What now ? Feeling stressed. Been a long few days. Had two shrink wrap I think. Not sure why. Humidity is at 70-80% but after zipping fully membranes turned hard and brown. I helped a bit after they were zipped for about 8 hours. I think that’s too long? Anyway they easily kicked out after I helped peel some shell away from the zip and add coconut oil and they’re doing wonderful.

Yep. It did.

Okay. That is weird. Never seen that before. No beak at all, you say? Can you see anything if you peel the membrane back slightly? From which end of the egg is the peeping coming?

If the chick did indeed pip at the small end, you may have to assist. But it's not definite. I've had wrong-enders make it out completely fine on their own before.

If the egg looks like that without your messing with it, I'm going to say your new fluffies were picking at the shell. I have seen that happen.

@Pyxis?
@Sally Sunshine?

It may have pipped there and then rotated away from the pip. If you can't find the beak, I would treat this like a wrong end pip that's taken too long, and actually open up the air cell to assess what's going on in there. Just the air cell though, because even if the chick is in the wrong end of the egg the air cell is still the safe place to open an egg without causing it to bleed out. Then you can put coconut oil on the membrane there and see what's going on as far as positioning and absorption.

Not sure if this is the assisted hatch article you were referencing, but I do have a section in there about assisting wrong end pippers so it might be helpful for you:

And yes, you can remove the other chicks :)

I did find the beak on the wrong end. It has a slit in the mebrane as you can see and seems to be okay. I’m keeping it oiled and it has a wet sponge on either side pretty close by. The little pieces of shell keep falling off and now the opening is pretty big. BUT it still has clear active veining so I have done nothing to assist. Breathing seems okay. Thoughts? It’s been 24 hours now.
