I just got these new duckling on the 28th and when we brought them home one of my ducklings started to do this (check the video). Not sure why she started doing this because she was walking totally normal before this moment. And afterwards she was fine again. It has been 3 days since I’ve gotten them and she has done it about once a day where she just can’t really stand but will be fine. The person who sold me the food said it’s high in protein but I'm not sure if it is a lack of protein problem. If you guys have any idea about why my duck is doing this please let me know!! I’m scared that this is a serious problem that I can’t fix! If it is a niacin deficiency, is dog food enough to use as a supplement? I have a bunch of dog food left over and I don’t want it to go to waste! I would soak them until it is soggy and soft enough for them to eat. Just not sure if I can do this. Please let me know!

First of all you need to read this https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/the-truth-behind-crested-ducks.707110/. Then you need to place your duckling in something so it doesn’t hurt itself when this starts. I’d get ASAP liquid b complex and start giving it to your duckling. Are you in the US?if so the best b complex is at TSC called Durvet liquid B complex injectable but we use it orally. I’d start off giving your little one 3-4 drops right inside the bill one drop at a time let it swallow then another. Just don’t shoot it down her throat it’s too easy to aspirate on liquids. Hopefully getting it started on the b complex will help a lot to get this little one stable. I’m sure it’s scary seeing that. It sure was watching it.

Omg I did not know this! Thank you so much for telling me about this! But is this a way to get rid of the problem? Will her problem get worse as she grows? I just don’t want her to be in pain and if something does happen I want to be ready to get another one for my other crested. If i start giving her this liquid will she eventually be okay? Thank you so much!!

Hopefully she’ll get stabilized once you get her on the liquid BComplex. Some crested go through life with out any problems and others have issues but let’s hope getting her on the liquid B complex will help her and she can have a normal life.

Okay so this neurological problem will hopefully resolve if I start giving her this? If she gets stabilized I won’t have to continue giving this to her for the rest of her life right? I’m trained in working with humans but I’m not sure how ducks work. I’m just so scared I don’t want her to be in pain or anything due to my ignorance on crwsted ducks. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me! I really appreciate it sorry for my ignorance.
Sorry to ask so many questions but do you know for how long I should be giving this to her? Like until I stop seeing symptoms?

Yes this is it. I don’t think she is in pain but I cannot tell you that she won’t have problems it will just have to be a wait an see. Hopefully the b complex will help. She’ll have to be on it at least a week or more after symptoms stop and there is a possibility for life but it’s not like a drug so the side effects are almost nil and what her body doesn’t use she’ll pee out. I wish I could say yes this will cure her but I really don’t know just know it’s defiantly worth a try since it helps with neurological issues due to niacin deficiency.

Thank you sooo much! I can’t thank you enough. I will definitely keep anyone who is wondering updated on her progress!
