Help older chicks

I have a vet appoint on Sat for my two sick hens. The onhere that has been sick the longest is eating everything b put in front of her. The other is not eating at all. Have been hand watering

I mixed Tylan with their food and have been eating it.Ate some cucumber.Seems very alert everytime i walk by dining room there two heads popping up to look at me.Will keep them in house until thru with Tylan and then put them in area by themselves and hope for the best
Tylan powder is normally used in the water 1 tsp per gallon for 5 days.
should I till offer them grit and oyster shells?
I would--they will take it if they need it. Yogurt is something I will mix into the feed and add a little water if they are not used to taking it. A tsp per bird is a good amount per day while on antibiotics. Try giving your hen chopped egg or canned tuna--those are hard to refuse in the chicken world. Please let us know what you find out at the vets. Sorry, but my computer has been down for the last 24 hours.

the directions the vet gave me the tylan was 1 tablespoon in a gallon of water. Am i giving it too strong. This is the second day of giving it. The one that just started getting sick on Wed will not eat anything including cooked egg yolk and food with water on it nor yogurt. The one that had been sick before is eating everything. Im at a lose. Both were up walking in the kitchen.I gave them a soak in a tub with a littl epson salts. Cant wait till Sat. This is the only vet that will see chickens in my area. I lost one earlier this year but dont know why she had always been small and sickly since birth. This is devastating to me. I have 7 that are doing fine

Yes, I think that is too strong. Most use 1 tsp or some even use 1/2 tsp. They are probably not getting overdosed if they are not drinking much.
Small and sickly since hatch is either a runt with immunity issues, or possibly an early case of coccidiosis. At their age egg yolk peritonitis is very common. Kind of a hard thing to diagnose for sure until they die, and a necropsy can be done. I am not a vet, but it would be great if you update us on what your vet has to say. Tube feeding is something you may want to learn to do for the one who won't eat, but I probably would not tube feed a bird that might have an incurable condition. Your vet should have feeding tubes and large syringes. Here is a good link about tube feeding: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/805728/go-team-tube-feeding

Here is a good link about Tylan dosage: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...an-water-soluble-powder-dosage-to-small-flock
Edited for spelling.

thank you for update on tylan dose. I will discard what i have made up and mix a new batch Possibly why not drinking much. I have a small bottle with a nipple on it for feeding kittens. I agree i wont try to hang on to them if it is incurable.i dont want them to suffer

still hand watering the one and not eating.Changed the dose on the tylan but dont think it made a difference on their drinking.Sun is shining today and warm may take them outside in a yard by themselves. Will see them from kitchen maybe a little fresh air will help

They were outside for about 1/2 hour stretching their legs and eating alittle grass.Back in house both ate tuna fish and tomato. They are acting good maybe antibiotc? Will see what vet says tomorrow

Would that prevent them from laying eggs. I believe it has been several months since they laid an egg.I will take samples in for tests. They were dewormed about 6 weeks ago with wazine.I understand that is only good for adult round worms. I don't like wazine but it it's the only thing I could find. I held the eggs for thirty days just to make sure. The one poops are just like water with a little green

If they would have egg yolk peritonits or internal laying, they may not lay, or they may lay rarely. Sometimes they can pass droppings that can look like egg material. Many illnesses can stop laying. Many people use Valbazen (albendazole) or fenbendazole (SafeGuard Liquid, the horse paste, Panacur) for worming. Those get most worms in chickens. I can get dosage for you if you need it.
