On Sunday, one of my 3 month old Swedish Blue ducks was laying on its breast, legs outstretched and flapping its wings to move. I am a retired nurse, so I assessed the poor thing and found no wound or felt no obvious fracture or leg or foot ailment. I know of the niacin deficiency, and joined this group to try and find help and guidance. I live on the family farm and am no stranger to sick animals, but this is the only one of our 5 ducks that has a problem. They are in a 12x 12 ft pen and my son works for Tractor Supply, so we began niacin, Nutri-Drench supplement and separated the duck from others. The duck is drinking the "doctored water" and brewers yeast has also been used. It has also been eating a little. Poop is greenish and white and watery. I have done duck physical therapy and there are no signs of head or neck problems, no eye problems... There was some molded food around their water dispenser and thought of botulism or parasites... Should I use wormer? We have no aviary or bird vet in our small town and other than dragging itself, and this happened in 1 day, the duck seems to not be in distress. Like I said, Saturday it was running with the others and Sunday, it was on the ground. They are not free range, yet. Thank y'all, from SC.
