We only have one chick in the brooder due to unforseen circumstances. Going to try to find a couple more, but in the
meantime all it does is peep. Tried a stuffed animal. Only seems happy when my daughter takes it outside and it runs around her. Is it going to peep all night? Anyone ever done this?

They'll probably calm down eventually. A mirror in the brooder may also help.

We have a solo three day old. He peeped so loudly and I swear would not sleep the first 48 hours unless we were with him. I bought him a mirror yesterday, and now he is so content. It is so cute watching him loving the mirror.

One of his hatch mates just hatched an hour ago, so if she survives, I will thankfully no longer have a solo

Try the mirror.

We had one tiny little bantam chick that was alone. -chirped to the rooftop unless it was being held. We quickly acquired three more little flock mates. -peace and contentment!

TXchickmum, that picture is ADORABLE! Awwwwww........

A mirror would help. Maybe your daughter should take her out every time possible if the chick seems happy as doing so.

A mirror is a HUGE help. I had a lone hatch myself with no way to get him a brooder mate. None of the stores around me had one near the same age. No hatcheries had one his age. I even tried craigslist with no luck!

I put a mirror and a stuffed rabbit in there. The rabbit got no attention, but the mirror got LOTS of pecks, tiny chirps, and even the occasional puff-up! It actually worked so well that I later moved the lone chick outside, and put four new chicks in there, and STILL have not heard anything! They are just enthralled by the mirror chicks!

Thanks for the ideas. We tried the mirror earlier, but I think I gave up too quickly and am going to put it back in.
