I just love that roo!!

I think it's so sweet how he is with his favorite girl! I'm inclined to think that the purple tips are from his blood not getting quite enough oxygen when he's just sitting there (I don't know.. maybe his lung was bruised? I don't think it was punctured, though, he'd have had much more of a struggle if it was) - I think having the hen there will help him get motivated to move around a little more which will help I'm sure. Whatever the reason I hope it's minor and he keeps on getting better and better!

He's stolen a lot of hearts here! I just love the pics - they make my day! Healing thoughts tonight for your sweet roo!

I don't think the purplish comb has to be because of blood loss. It is possible that while he is healing his body is just more stressed that usual which tends to concentrate blood flow to the center of the body rather than the extremities.

This is also a good explanation. Or maybe it's just stress. I have zero experience with the purple comb issue but I do know that he looks alert and seems to be doing a lot better which is a very good thing!

As for healing, they can heal from wounds. I had a pullet hook herself on a nail (I didn't realize the nail was there) and DH had to dismantle the roost so I could get her out. She tore a > shape cut under her wing. She couldn't walk at first and she would not lay down. I cleaned the wound and kept her isolated - she healed perfectly. So it is possible.

YAY!!!!! So excited to hear that he is eating and he looks great! I think that bringing his fave girl to be with him was a wonderful idea and the pictures are so adorable.

Well, just finished doing his evening cleaning and dressing change.....
The skin laceration is sealing over...there appears to be no sign of swelling (YA!!)
However...there is A LOT or green and blue bruising under the skin over his bad leg, knee, hip and lung region......So there is some internal bleeding signs.....However NO SWELLING so this is good news

This could explain the lack of flow to the comb.....
He is "trying" to walk a lot more with his Girl Bella with him..I just tucked them in and put a blanket over them for the night......

I read somewhere on her SEVERAL times that you can give chickens Child's Motrin or Ibuprophen...but i do not know the strength.... Where do you get Tylon..all I have with in 1.5 hours is a Orschlen (and being medically sick myself...i cannot go that far)
...and I know for a fact all they have in antibiotics is Duramycin (sp??) Would it be worth trying to us that just so there is something?
Only thing I was able to get him to eat today was 1 large scrambled egg with some buttermilk and plain Yogurt (with active cultures)..because that is his FAVORITE thing to eat !!!!
then he had a TINY bit of feed...he is still pooping, and makes the occasional cooing sounds....
my little guy only weights about 1 pound.....i use a diluted (half water and HALF peroxide....that is all i had here besides rubbing alcohol...but i will get some iodine tomorrow)
He tries to walk, but cannot so I clean him up several times a day so he is not sitting in poop, and change the bedding for him......I don't have his girl in the box while he sleeps cause I do not want her keping hi mup and if he passes away..I don't want her there to see.....

I will do whatever to help this Brave little Roo.....he did a lot for the others...and he held a spot in my heart from day ONE and even more so now !!!!!

Sorry about not getting back to you. I've been recovering from surgery and had a dr's appt. (all is well , though!) Tylan can be purchased online or a local feed store...I know tractor supply has it. Glad to hear your little roo is doing so well. I wouldn't give it motrin of any kind. The vet told me aspirin or Metacam the latter is more expensive. I am happy to share what information I have received from a very great and reliable vet source. LOVE MY VET!!!! Keep up the great work!!!

He is looking pretty good today...is limping around with his lady Bella......and has been trying to perch on his food bowl....LOL
He managed to pull his FlexNet off and the wounds are starting to scab over.....Still a lot of bruising... but the purple comb is more bright Red today

My son Named Him Arrow Strike when he was only a day old......
