Red, I'm not sure I want to hear the explanation of why a mouse would be okay but not a rat. If I had my drathers, I'd rather deal with a rat than a mouse.

Put a towel between it and the heating pad and cover it losly to keep it warm. The direct heat pad will kill it. It has very thin skin and no body fat.
