As of December 1st 2018, no we cannot obtain any “medications used for veterinary treatments” without a prescription from a licensed veterinarian with whom we have a close personal relationship. Upon getting down to the farmhouse after speaking with my vet a VERY lively discussion ensued on this topic and how it will affect our farm. So far it doesn’t look good.
There is One large animal vet in the middle of Vancouver island, which is close to the size of half a US state 12,079miles squared! It costs several thousand dollars for them to make a visit to our farm. I am in favor of doing this a few times if it will establish the needed relationship to obtain our medications. The small scale farmer that doesn’t have a vet on payroll is basically being hung out to dry here!
I only talked to the receptionist when I first called in, after trying several other “avian” vets, because we’ve had the large animal/livestock discussion with my vet a few times before... he did that in Eastern Europe but doesn’t want to get into it here. The Stool sample will be fine, if there is another death he will do a necropsy for me, but doesn’t want me to dig up Sunday nights death. He will do this for me for my “pet” chickens and will give me the proper dosages. I’m now very thankful for the contact I’ve established with my hyperthyroid geriatric cats.
