Also, from googling pictures of goslings I think this might be a canada goose, and if so that is not good. I've seen canada geese on her property but her farm is huge, I dont think she keeps canda geese as pets, I think they just hang out there. If it is a canada goose I think I'm going to bring it to her within a week or so, because I think they are illegal to have as pets here.

If it's a Canada goose then you'd need to take it to a rehabber, not your friend. Can you get a closer up picture of it? Particularly of its beak?

Oh no! Would a rehabber kill it?? What would they do with it? I'm reading that it's illegal to hatch the eggs too. I really hope it's one of her domesticated ones, I do not want to find out I've done something illegal.

Well I hate to say it but that does look like a Canada goose. The beak is very distinct. Are the legs all black as well?

Don't worry, the rehabber won't kill it. They're just going to raise it in such a way that it can be returned to the wild. It needs to have parents or flockmates it can follow when migration comes so it can learn the routes - if it doesn't, it won't know the routes and won't be able to migrate.

A rehabber will show it how to find food in the wild and hopefully will know of a flock it can turn it loose with when it's old enough so it can follow the flock when they migrate.

But, also find out if your friend has Canada geese, because you CAN keep them with proper permits and paperwork proving they came from domestic stock. So if the geese there are hers, not wild, then she can legally keep the baby.

Oh no. Yes, iits feet are all black. This has just been a mess! My friend is going to tell me this why she doesnt interfere at all. Will I be ok with the gosling until Monday? Now I'm worried it needs to be with a rehabber asap so I'm not making it harder to learn to be in the wild, but it's almost 8pm on friday. I'm googling rehabbers now

Ok I will definitely check with her first. I haven't heard back from her but we visit often and she said I could come tomorrow so I'll know by then at least.

Perfect. And if they are hers, asks if she pinions them because if so this baby would need to be pinioned ASAP - that's having the last joint of one of the wings removed so it can't fly. If you're going there tomorrow and she does pinion she could probably do that for you so you don't have to deal with it.

But if she doesn't own the Canada geese then definitely start looking for a rehabber that can take the little one.
