Does anyone know of a support group, online or otherwise, for wives of disabled veterans or at least combat veterans wives? There used to be one years ago but I can't find anything anymore.

I have a serious need and I would like to talk to someone who understands.

My friend Cetawin may be able to clue you in on something. I'll show her this thread. Her husband is a combat veteran, a medically discharged Green Beret. My DH has a disability rating for his back (he retired as a Master Sgt), but wasn't in combat.

Call your closest VA Hospital, they ought to be able to point you in the right direction.

You might be able to get something from your US representative. The VA hospital is a good start but maybe this is another option if that does not work. You might be pleasantly surprised by what your US Representative's office can accomplish.

Best of luck.

Thank you. I have asked the VA bf and have not gotten anywhere. My husband is 100% disabled Veteran, USMC, Vietnam. He has some issues.

You could also contact your county's Veteran Services Officer and ask him/her to point you in the right direction. They may know of some local resources for you.

This may be the best option for you:

Contact your local Vet Center (they are the VA as well, but specifically offer counseling therapy to combat veterans and their families) Since they specialize in combat veterans, they are specialists in dealing with trauma (such as PTSD) and how it affects the Veteran as well as the family and will treat the Vet as well as family members. I have first-hand knowledge about these and encourage you to contact the closest one to you. They operate under the Veterans Health Administration, but under Readjustment Counseling Services. It is no cost to the Veteran or their family members. It is what the Vet is entitled to as a benefit. www.vetcenter.va.gov
