HELP please need fly killer

Ok so I got one of those fly bags exactly the one pictured on this thread..

IT STINKS!!!! I mean it has made almost half my yard stink.. I thought it was the coop/run so I cleaned it out.. several times..

It is the fly catcher... It is catching flies but oh my

what to do??

When they are unbearable I move them back in the woods until they are full and put up a new one in yard. Replacement when they are unbearable is about all you can do. I seal the old ones in a zip lock bag before I toss them.

I use Golden Malrin Fly Bait. It is VERY toxic to animals, so I put the granules out of reach.........but I'm telling you.......this stuff works like a charm!!! I tested it out under my 'preteen' coop that has a clean-out tray underneath that was swarming. Sprinkled some on.....sat back and watched.....Flies were drawn to it instantly, then seemed to have neurological issues almost immediately.
I bought it at the Feed Store, pretty expensive for a small can, but a little goes a long way!!!

Those fly trap things stink for a reason, that's what attracts the flies. The longer it's there, the more it stinks, but it REALLY works. Mine get completely full of flies, so I just put up with the smell. I also use those sticky thingys you hang up and they get lots of flies on them, too.

I second the Golden Malrin fly bait. We buy ours at TSC. It can be broadcast if in a place where birds and pets can't get at it or it can be placed in a bait station (try a cool whip container or some such with holes big enough for flies to get in but not your cat) and put somewhere up high.

Golden Malrin was designed for commercial poultry houses. We used it near our dairy barns. I guess it all comes down to how you feel about using chemicals. I personally can't stand the stink from the fly traps.

I use the FLY MAGNET bag - and HECK it does smell....

It takes about 3-4 days before I catch ONE fly in it, but once there is one, the rest follow as that one fly dies and starts that stinky smell which attracts all the others. Within 4-5 days of that - I have to toss and hang another one. (I actually hang two right next to each other)

I do wonder sometimes, if I'm catching everyone else's flies as well - if that BAG is bringing MORE flies than I would have around here without them and their smell.

This will probably seem like a dumb question but.......
Keeping the bait away from the chickens isn't a problem but does anyone know what would happen to them if they eat dead flies who have eaten the bait? Mine seem to pick up just about anything if only for a "taste test". If the dead flies could be a problem any estimate on how far away from the pen the bait would have to be so they can't make it back before they croak?
