Help Please--peachick with leg problem!

My peachick, which is only about 2 1/2 weeks old is acting like it can not use it right leg! It is hopping around and then lays down and hold the leg out. Does anyone know what could be wrong? It is on plastic mating so I do not think it has gotten caught in the wire floor. Could it have hurt itself or is there something nuerological going on? Please any suggestions? It is housed by itself.

Take it off of the plastic the chick could slip a tendon or such and at 2 1/2 weeks you won't be able to fix it. (it's not a slipped tendon I can't think of the name) put pine or cedar shavings down so the chick can get some traction and walk.

Sounds like strattle leg, but he's a bit old... but seen similar before.... What are you feeding it? Too much protien I believe can cause leg problems early on.

I have put the peachick on an old bath towel and will stop the egg yolk every day. Since I put the towel down I have noticed he is walking better. All I can do is try this and hope he gets better. I just assumed he would be like a guinea and need more protein than chicks. I also never took into consideration that its longer leg would have a problem on the rubber matting. I just hope I caught it in time!

22% Medicated chick starter is just right for peachicks anything higher could cause leg problems.

Thank you all for your time on this. I check my chick starter this morning and it is 18%. I really think now that the chick hurt itself--maybe got its foot caught in the wire on the side of the pen. I have hobbled it to keep it other leg in while hopefully it heals. It does not like it but is hopping around and still eating. My finger are crossed too that it will heal and I will try to post the results here to let people know.

yes the yolk will raise the protien ...to high
