My roosters "gamecocks" are not aggressive to people at all and are like pets mostly, even the one that jumped on the "baby" (rooster that died of this thread), he is a very good daddy to the baby chicks and when the mother will no longer have anything to do with them and runs them away, Jr will take care of them. He has even gotten up into the nest with them before. He will wait at the chicken house for his hens to go in and lay their eggs, and will not leave them, but wait on them to get done. If one of the hens starts to yell about anything, he will drop everything and leave the rest of the flock to come running to see what is wrong with her. He baby sits the babies and he always will call the hens and babies to come eat anything that I come out to give them, he won't even eat it himself but will pick it up and lay it at the hens feet to eat! He is a fabulous rooster to the hens, which is why I didn't want to get rid of him and only keep the "baby". Wanted to keep them both, but that didn't work out obviously.
As far as the dust bath provided for them withe the dusting powder and D-earth that you mix in, once I do that to their dusting area, they will not get in it anymore. I have tried it several times and it just will not work for me, even tried putting some ashes from the wood heater in there, but they still will abandon it once I add something to it even just a little bit. I've even made them a special dust bin in the chicken house to get in that stays dry all the time, out of a big flat plastic sweater bin, which is perfect and has some great dirt that they like to dust in, and they will not get in it! It's like they're thumbing their nose at me for trying to make them take the good dust bath and they're not having it! They are smarty pants chickens!
