HELP PLEASE!!!

I have a chick that had pasty butt. We wipped it off with a warm paper towel. When we set the chick back into the brooder it started wobbling around and had its eyes closed. We really want to know what’s going on and if we can help it. Any ideas?

How old is the chick?
What is the exact temp of your brooder?

It is just under a week old. The brooder is 85 degrees Fahrenheit

Were you careful wiping it off?
If so then the chick should be fine.
If it stays acting "sleepy" then you may want to read up on Coccidiosis.

We were super careful and the chick did not squeak more than when we usually hold it.

Sometimes it just happens, sometimes the temp being too hot or too cold can cause it.

85 May be a bit cool for a week old chick. 90 would be better if they seem cold.
They’ll bunch up together if they get chilly.

If the baby ...keeps... acting sleepy, I find that poly v really helps bounce them bsck. Tiny, tiny drop, every 2 hrs. the rest of the evening. Love this stuff for recovering weak chicks. Good luck.

The temp is to cold....first week should stay steady at 95....decreasing five degrees a week for every week thereafter

Also....and this is just a sciencey thing I do....mix a few spoon tips of plain yogurt in the fresh water supply.....adds probiotics to the water....ive lost 17 birds out of the last 750 or so
