Help please

putting coconut oil on the membranes works very well to keep them from drying :) I had my first assisted hatch in August of last year. Despite me being completely new to the whole assisted hatching thing, and having only read about it, the baby hatched and with some supportive care in the first few days, Jaeleyn (meaning survivor!) grew up to be very healthy and happy. Make sure the baby has absorbed the yolk before you take all the shell off, or else there will be a hole in the abdomen, and the intestines will fall out. The baby will have no chance then. If that does happen (but intestines aren't out), set the chick/duck up in the eggshell in a paper/styrofoam cup so that they can finish absorbing it. With Jaelyen, I worked around from her head to her rear VERY slowly, taking off only a little shell at a time. Luckily all went smoothly and she had absorbed it already.
Edit: Just realized this is for a duck XD and my experience was with a chick, but I'm sure it is similar.

d to lower the humidity

ok thank you. This is my instinct after reading lots of conflicting advice so I will watch and wait.
Misting has been suggested and coconut oil on the bleeding membrane. Any thoughts on this please. I really am hating opening the incubator and interfearing.
Coconut oil is good.
It does not look like it is drying out yet.
I think you are in good shape for now.
I'd just wait.

70% is high enough. Please, no wet paper towels touching the eggs. :)

Wrong end pips will take longer, so as long as the bill is free of any membrane issues, it should be fine for quite a while. Just keep it moist with coconut oil if that’s what you’ve been using. I find Vaseline lasts longer, coconut oil dries out a little sooner, so you just have to adjust more often.

Ducks can take up to 40+ hours, when they pip normally thru the air cell. They spend almost a whole day in the air cell. Since this one missed the air cell, you have to add those times together. So you could be in for a long wait. Not saying it will take this much time, but it could.

Good luck, and welcome to BYC! :D

Hi and thanks for the advice. Watching and waiting and hopefully I won’t need to use it for the next ones.
Im kicking myself for interfearing now but after seeing the small end of the egg look a bit dark for a couple of days and research telling me it was caused by the chick bashing and bruising the egg I was directed to this article
http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching
which suggested I should of maybe intervened at the tenth hour, then I panicked ☹️
Really hoping this little fella makes it, he/she has some attitude ❤️
