So I just found this bird in my yard, I'm not even sure if this is the right place to ask. But does anyone know what this is??

It looks like a pheasant of some kind, is it sick?
There is a section on BYC that has many Pheasant owners that may be of more help to you.

Awesome thank you! It doesn't look or sound sick. It actually let me pick it up, so no choke hold, it could fly out of my hands if it wanted to

Yep. It's definitely a Golden Pheasant. Do you have neighbors with birds like this? Did one of them lose it?:/

Our neighbors keep chickens but I believe they eat them =\ I've never seen one like this. We just have normal chickens and roosters running around here

I think the pheasant just looks like tat because golden pheasant plays dead when you hold them, and then you slightly loosen your grip they take off!

Heck i thought pheasants were to wild to just pick up like i do my peas, you telling me they can be tame? My DH has always wanted pheasants, only bird i ever heard him say he would like to raise, he ain't a real animal person he just loves me and the animals are part of my package, guess he really loves me cause after 38 years he is still here along with the animals

Some pheasants are tamer than others. I had some ringneck pheasants I handraised but they were crazy wild. I handraised some silver pheasants though and they are just the sweetest things. Of course at breeding season my boy gets grumpy. I just give him space till it's over and then he is back to his sweet self. I've talked to some pheasant people and they said that the silvers are the ones with the coolest personalities. I hope someday to try to handraise some Lady Amherst though to see how they are. They are soo pretty.

Aww, gotta love the guys that put up with us and our animals. Mine is the same way. Although I have been working alot and now that he has been taking care of my babies for me he is getting more and more interested in them. I even caught him reading about them other day. Just a matter of time before he is hooked too
