HELP! prolapsed vent chick?

Got several new chicks today. Got home and this one had bad pasty butt. cleaned it and need to know what we can put on it.

Most any lubricant. I'd probably use Preparation H or Vaseline if I had any around. Veggie oil would be fine. Some might use honey.

Hey! I don't mean to cut in on your thread Clintgt but I also have a chick with a prolapsed vent. I have been using prep h and it's get better over night but seems to come back again. I'm so worried I'll lose the baby.

I have been fighting a prolasped vent for a week on a two week old silkie. Prep H did nothing for two days. Next night I put sugar on it and it was half the size or less the next morning. Now it's at a standstill. Not any better but not any worse. The area still portrudes and she didn't like the sugar so she plucked out every feather back there while trying to get the sugar off. I have researched for a solid week straight to no avail. There is no info I have found online that tells you exactly how to treat a baby prolaspe. I have only read one story where no one had any advice for the person but eventually her baby grew out of it to be a strong two year old rooster. I only see info on slings for adult hens. If you find anything out please let people like myself know because we are all at a loss! Thanks!

We found a small article last night mentioning witch hazel. So far it has done wonders.

We may be over applying it. But once in morning and twice in evening after work. Now it is just a little swolen. With a small scab. We put a small amount of antibiotic ointment for that.

I know witch hazel helps on humans to make it smaller, is an antiseptic and does not burn but is it helping your chick to make the purtruding vent go back inside and stay where it belongs I wonder? That is the problem I seem to be facing and can't find the info for? Oh how I hope it does for your chicks sake and mine!
