Hey guys my male leapt up at me when I was changing the gallon watered and SMACKED it with his head, surprised himself and landed awkwardly on his foot. Is now puffed up and limping. Will it resolve by itself? He’s laying in the shavings, none of the other birds are hurting him however. Closing his eyes and cooing.

He is now only limping, hopping around and taking rest breaks but still trying to mate and still chases me when I added fresh radish greens for them. Good sign that he’s acting fairly normal besides the limp? Has the foot tucked up so I can’t see it well but no swelling, or blood.

One of my hens did the same thing once. I picked her up and manipulated her leg and foot, feeling for a break or a swelling. I couldn't feel any. She recovered fine, but that leg still bugs her sometimes. If I were you, I'd try isolating him so he doesn't aggravate a potential injury, and keep watch. Hope he recovers quickly!

I tried isolating and within minutes he was crowing and hopping around, looking for the girls. LOL! I put a ramp up into an elevated box so he can escape or rest in the greens without being bothered by the girls and he hopped up that quickly. Leaving him alone the rest of the day to let him settle. Only really worried at this point about shock.

He should be okay. I have buttons and a few have jumped and bashed their brains in on the cage lid. They were stunned but survived. I have only had one hen that jumped and instantly killed herself. Maybe try to make the lid more cushioned if possible? Or consider making a new habitat with a mesh lid? I dunno.

I will! In this particular case he hit the bottom of the gallon waterer as I was lifting it out of the cage. I’m going to get some towels for now to drape over the area when I’m taking feeders and such out so there’s a little cushion! Thank you!
