Hi All,
Thanks for reading my lenghty question. Please note I have never owned any type of ducks/ducklings so this is all new to me.
Two days ago I brought home two, 2 day old Muscovies and a friend is fostering 2 from the same clutch at her home for me. I hope to have 2 ducks mature as I don't want any drakes. I live in a suburban setting and hope these ducks will be pets. The ducks will have a 10x12 pen to live in the backyard while we are not home.
The last two days we have spent about 5-6 hours handling the ducklings per day. I want to know if these little ducklings will become friendly enough for me to handle. Right now the ducklings are definitely imprinted to other ducks (yes they where hatched to a duck mother) however they are personable and seem content to cuddle on our warm necks and chest. I ordered duckling diapers yesterday and I should be able to put them on within 6 days. I need to be able to put diapers on the ducklings aswell as when they are full grown. On occasion I would like for the ducks to come inside the house once they are full grown. I entertain a lot in our backyard and we have a huge patio area, so I plan to put diapers on when guests are over. Also I hope to take the ducks to nursing homes to use as therapy pets should they learn to travel well and become docile enough.
From your experience does my plan have a chance?
Katie

Muscovies are one of the sweetest breeds & easily get attached to people. it's good you got them as babies and not juveniles or adults. there's a couple people on here that have house ducks and 1 person with house Muscovies. they should get used to the diaper just fine especially sicne theyre still babies. i have no idea about the travelling thing but i have had 1 person get ducks from me and she just let them run around in her car for the trip home. i guess they could get used to it.

just make sure they don't develop any pinching habits & also, Muscovies have HUGE claws that hurt like crazy if you get scratched. you could try trimming them to keep them dull but they could really really hurt an older person.
