Anyone know if its safe to pin prick the egg to relieve pressure?
I'm running out of options here
The swelling went down quite a bit but the egg is big

Ok this computer keeps replacing my word I want to use with jerk - its not me typing jerk

How about pin poke - I wonder if the computer will change that word on me - anyways that was my point - pin poke the egg

Be very careful and break the shell and let her dispell it. Soak her bottom in warm water like a sitz bath. Keep her warm after, put her in a nice darkened room, give her some yogurt for good probiotics with her feed and maybe some apple cider vinegar in her water.

Hey,

I know you must be scared...... I would be. I have been trying to look up any helpful hints - this website had a few:

http://www.pekinbantams.com/egg_bound.asp

They say put her in a sink of very warm water - like you would want to take a bath in after a long hard day........... the heat will help her relax and she may be able to pass the egg. They also suggested vaseline or whatever kind of lubricant you may have on hand - rub is around the vent opening and on the egg if you can feel it - also around the sides of the egg if possible.

Good luck! Keep us posted as to your progress.

I'll say a little prayer for you and your lady bird.

I had a silkie do this a month ago, I noticed red tissue protruding from her vent. I gave her a warm bath in the sink and kept ky-jelly on her vent. It still didn't pass , so i took her to my fam vet were they broke the egg and removed as much as the contents as they could. He said that part of the egg had adhered to the wall lineing that had kept it stuck. If the rest of the pieace passes she would make it, just keep the vent lubercated. fed her natural yogurt, kept her indoors with a buddy then outside during the day. She's still doing great even though I never really saw that egg pieace pass, to little I guess.

Had this happen to one of my birds. I used mineral oil in a syringe minus the needle to lube the vent. Just insert syringe gentle into vent so that you don't break egg and fill with mineral oil the put in quite dark room for a few hours to see if that helps to loosing egg. It is hard to pass an egg once it hardens inside the bird. The mineral oil will lube up the egg so that it will pass easier.

how is your bird...I assume she has passed the egg now? Did you put her in a warmbath and then on a nice toasty warm towel and "lube"her vent with KYgel or mineral oil?

In this case it's best to break the egg and take it out that way...

I had my Leghorn Obelisk lay a thinshelled egg yesterday and she was having trouble today so I went up with her to my bedroom and sat with her until she laid. I would've done the bath and the PrepH also if she was still having troubles.
