HELP! Religious subjects.......

So much of the Bible is life teachings that make so much sense. Do unto other as you would have them do unto you, love your neighbor as your would love yourself, do not steal, do not murder, do not commit adultery, etc. I am not refering to the meat of the Bible that needs dissection either. I mean the most basic stuff. Even non believers teach their kids THAT stuff. So, IMHO, the Word isn't shoved down throats, but taught by parents everywhere.

Understood!

but i'm talking about having a 5 yr old kid learn 26 verses for homework... theres a difference.

Ah I got a bit off topic and I TOTALLY agree with you. That is a ridiculous amount of memorizing to do!!! For anyone. I was once challenged to learn all of 1 Timothy. I did it, under duress (as an adult), passed and now I cannot remember a blessed thing!!!! LOL!

And probably wondering why this thread is NOT staying on topic!

I am not going to warn again!

Sorry. I just had to re-read the entire thread to realize how off topic we were.

To the OP. The chapter and verse numbers confuse me too sometimes.

The words are what they are. No way there "but through Me". It seems confusing to some, the Bible does, but some verses are very clear and this is one that is. IMHO.

Ok, can't help myself.

Those words are translations of words that were put on paper 90 years after the crucifixion. How can anyone know what was truly said, how it was said, and the context of it. I am not one who believes Jesus would have been an exclusivist like he is portrayed by many who quote that scripture. The God of my understanding would not punish nor restrict someone for lack of belief or understanding.

My pastor would agree with you, or at least with your last two sentences.

"John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" can just as easily be understood to mean that it is only because of God's grace through Jesus that mankind is saved. That verse does NOT say that you must believe--indeed, if you read the passages around it, it is clear that his disciples were uncertain and questioning. There are verses elsewhere that ask for belief--but not this one.

So that would be John, Chapter 14, Verse 6 if someone asked.

Trying so hard to stay on topic but so agree with the idea of God's Grace being what is meant by that passage
