Help! Rooster’s Nails have fallen out!

Hi All-
I was checking on my flock today and saw that a few of my roosters nails (not spurs) on one foot have fallen out. They don’t look infected or bloody, but several weeks ago I did notice that he had one bloody nail, but didn’t realize there was a major issue. He doesn’t look like he’s limping or otherwise having problems.

Has anyone ever seen this? Is it alarming?

I have not seen this but have heard of it happening. Clean off his feet and take a few photos and post could help people to offer opinions. I suggest when you clean them apply some antibacterial ointment to help avoid any infections. I imagine if he is not displaying any signs of discomfort he will be just fine, but pictures would help confirm that.

Great! I will do that. He wouldn’t let me pick him up earlier but I will try to get him while he is roosting. What kind of antibacterial ointment is safe for chickens?

Do you have neosporin?
If you have any type of antibacterial ointments or antibiotic creams post pictures of them here and people can tell you if they are safe or not.

You don't want to use anything with a pain killer in it. Any of the 'cain drugs are bad for birds. Regular neosporin is ok, neosporin with pain relief is not.

Where are you located, and have you been experiencing freezing temperatures in the last month? Toenails can turn black and fall off after being frostbitten or smashed. Can you post pictures?
