HELP! ROSEBUD SKINNED-WARNGRAPHIC PICS **UPDATE***

Bantymum... thanks for your concern! Rosebud is doing well. She laid two eggs within an 8 hour period. One of them was soft shelled, the other was normal for the most part... just off color.

I brought LadyBell in to be with her this morning... oh goodness noisy hens!! Sounds like they are catching up on the latest gossip LOL....

But all in all.... things are going good!

Thanks again....Tes

ok after looking at these pictures those wounds dont look too bad they should heal rather quickly and your hospital looks good plenty of room for her. Just remember in the future not to use peroxide it will damage the skin. check your mail.

Tes I am sorry that this has happend. I had to do a lot of doctoring with my hens fore the same problem. I used preoxide to clean out the wound the best I could. (it didnt harm any of my chickens). Then I put a Johnson&JOhnson Advanced Healing Adhesive pad to put over to wound. Since they lost their feathers it wasnt a problem getting them on and these patches dont come off easy and are not uncomfortable to the chichens and they generally leave them alone. The patches will draw out any infection that she might have in the wound and it will make the wound grow from inside out which will mimize scaring. I had to do this to quite a few of my poor hens. I know the cuts look horrible but they a really hardy birds and heal up just fine.

As for the rooster Take a pair of pliers and twist the spurs off. The entire spurs doesnt come off but whats left underneath is a soft fleshy knob. It wont to hard enough to make anymore cuts. This is a easy thing to do. The roosters that we have done this to dont even act like anything is happing to them. They dont bleed very much either. And once they start getting a hardend spur again you just repeat the proccess. Every time you do this the spur will keep getting smaller. And they usually dont even grow back with the sharp tip. I think spotted crow was the one who taught me how to do this but I am not sure. I know it does work well though.

Now I must ask.....What happend to you I havent gotten to talk to you in forever.I miss chatting with you. Anyway good luck to you hen and I would go out and have a hay day twisting off some spurs. Take care.

Alley - Thanks for the info.... check your PM on this board!!!
(will send you a note in a few)

Spotted - Thanks! They are together and doing well... finally quited down LOL... they were just talking up a storm!!!!!

Simplicity - Thanks, I will here in a few!

If anyone wants to know what I want for x-mas LOL 41 saddles for my girls. I have about 5 more girls out there that are loosing feathers... BUT, not like LadyBell and RoseBud. Goodness me.

We will be doing spurs here in the next day or two... so much to do... so little time.

Also, getting rid of a few roos. I will post on the buy-sell-give away when we figure who is going and also after we see what friends want what!!! We have 9 of them.... so we figure we would get rid of 5! The more agressive ones have got to go.... the POLISH will be going!!!!!!!!!!! All of them. I have 2 silver laced and one golden laced.

Thanks all for your help and thoughfulness!!!!!!!!!!! We so much appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!

***UPDATE***

Just wanted to let you all know that Rosebud is doing very well! She is healing nicely and feathers are coming in!!! Ladybell is doing well too... her feathers are also coming in and looks like I will be able to return them back to the flock soon.

I am also now less 3 roosters. The polish are gone. I met a man today at TSC and well we started talking... he took all three. I hated to get rid of them, but they were all so aggressive and I just couldnt take it anymore. This man also knows someone that is getting rid of his hens... YAY me.... So he will be calling and dropping off some hens too us!!! They also have ducks LOL... Hmmm... am I going to get more than I can handle LOL.

Well, just wanted to update. Only have 1 more roo to get rid of now since my brother in law is taking one. Girls should be alot happier now!!!!

Thanks Smitty... yah it was kinda hard... but then again... I have been threatening because of their aggressiveness! I have seen a huge difference in the past couple of days that they have been gone, the others are doing very well and the roos that I still have left have settled down alot! 2 left to get rid of... but already have good homes for them. One is a BR and the other a LB (light brahma). Which both are awesom and I really do not want to get rid of them... But I think it is for the best. Not to mention I can go see them anytime I want.

I am however kinda worried about Rosebud and Ladybell... they are not giving me eggs... I have had 1 egg in 3 days. I am chalking it up to stress. But I would have thought they would have been over that by now. We did move them back outside... NO, not with the other girls or boys... but put them in their own area. I would have thought they would start again. Hmmmm

Well all I can do is watch them and baby them the best I know how.

How are their wounds? I bet they have to get used to their environment, b/c they were inside and now outside in a diff location. It's probably just stress. At least Rosebud has company and is not by herself. I bet you will get some egss once they heal some more. My hens have slowed down a bit with it getting darker sooner. Keep us posted. I hope they heal quickly, so they can join their friends.
