Does anyone have any examples of the difference between a 4-5 week old maran pullet and cockerel? I have some marans and am having a hard time distinguishing the difference as their legs, combs, etc seem to be rather similar. I understand its probably too early to tell, but I'm just curious to as to what the norm is at this age. I have blue and splash if that makes any difference :) thank you again in advance!

Not so fast. Marans telegraph very early as males, with large red-pink combs. I have had larger yellow combs on my females. I knew at 2 weeks who my male was.

I've dug around in my photos, and can't find an absolutely awesome pic of my females and males at 4 weeks of age....but I remember my male was twice as big as the females and already pink.

I also had a precocious girl with a larger yellow comb that I would have called male in other breeds.

So, give it a couple more weeks. If male, those combs will double in size and get very red within the next 2 weeks.

My 2 cents.
