What should I do? Chick hatched and freed itself from the egg but has the membrane of the shell stuck on its back. Should I leave it alone or do something?

It should come off on its own. The only other way to get it off (from what I read) is to wet it, which would make the chick wet and risk chilling it. As long as the other chicks aren't bothering the affected chick (affect or effect....stupid word....I think affect) then I'd just leave it alone. Don't try to pull it off dry, you'll pull the fuzzy cute stuff off the chick and may tear its skin as well. Good luck, and

Thanks. I'll let it be. It's been a harrowing night. First hatch. All was going well. Until I used my friends' LG to house the dry babies to make room in my brinsea ecco 20 for the rest of the chicks. Big mistake! Although the temp was working just fine for 3 days in testing it, the LG spiked in the night as I slept and killed 5 baby chicks and a guinea keet. There seems to be a lot of needing to let it be in this process.
