Crowing
I do exactly what @Happy Henny does...dunk the chicken's bottom in warm water, then use a wet paper towel and it usually comes off after a few dunks and wipes. Good luck!

Yup. I would clean that off -- either the dunk or dab will work. You just want to make sure you use the water to soften it well before trying to get it off. Chick skin and feathers are very delicate and it is easy to de-feather them, or rip the skin if you try to rush it.This was the best photo I could get (chick wouldn’t sit still and camera wouldn’t focus) if need a better photo just let me know
I always remove it, even it is not really pasty butt. The important thing is to work slowly and carefully. I wet a paper towel with warm water and then carefully and gently dab/hold the wet paper towel against the chick's rear, until the poop gets soft enough to gently wipe off. You will have to wet and dab more than once, and the chick's butt will get wet. That's ok. When the poop is gone, Pat it dry and then put some vasoline on it, under (not over) the vent, which will help poop slide more easily off.
It is pasty bottom and appears in first week or two of life. I used wet paper towel and Vaseline. I checked daily and repeated as needed until chick pooped and cleared vent. May have to take near sink and wet more diligently with wet paper towel to the bottom to remove. Once clean and Vaseline applied with a q-tip,put back under heat source in brooder to rewarm. Just make sure it does not have cord attached to vent to avoid prolapse. This worked for me and continued cleaning and applied Vaseline every day for three days before mine cleared on own. If see chick have any moist poo on bottom take a toothpick using it sideways and lift up from bottom to lift poo away before dries if you see it. It will come right off before dries and becomes pasty bottom.
UPDATE, I was able to get the poop off only to discover another chick with even more poop on its bum, the dunking method worked best for her so now everyone is happy and healthy thank you all so much.![]()
LolNothing like a bidet to get the job done.
Yeah all of these are right I agree with Happy Henny, that is what I did with my first btach of chicks. I would fill it up a little with warm water hold them there and take a wet paper towl and LIGHTLY dab the poop off. Then keep them separate from other chicks, like two with eachother, because they will bully eachother and pick at the wet feathers.Should I be concerned about a piece of poop stuck to my 5 day old chicks butt, it’s not pasty butt but I fear if I leave it, it may turn into pasty butt, how do I get it off I tried a wet paper towel but it did not come off and I don’t want to pull it off cause it may hurt the chick plz help.![]()
