Help! Someone dumped baby chicks in my yard!!

If you have feral chickens running around, it's possible something happened to momma and the little ones were fending for themselves, although it does seem a bit too much of a coindence that they would wind up at your place. Then again, there are no coindences! Do you happen to live in Fair Oaks? I know they have quite the feral chicken population (I almost did a drive-by rooster drop off last year, but then found him a home!). Good luck with those little cuties!

do you have a stuffed animal you can put in with them? You might also try filling a tube sock about 1/2 full of uncooked rice, tie it shut & microwave for about 2 to 3 min. The rice will get warm and may help the chickies settle down. I hope they do ok, poor darlings.

also, the feral chickens tend to stick to downtown which is 2 miles or so away. there is a fruit stand, a fast food joint and multiple businesses that make sure they have fresh feed and water out.

peeps, it would be good if you could find a heat lamp (even a red colored reg. light bulb aka "party bulb" can be purchased at walmart) for additional warmth w/o the light disturbing the sleep pattern. As little as they are, 75* is still too cool for them, & they'll need that extra warmth for at least 2-3 weeks minimum. I've heard other folks mention they've gotten the ceramic type bulbs (like PetsMart , PetCo & other places sell for reptiles) that produce heat w/o light. Hope you find a workable solution; these little guys deserve a fighting chance.

they'll settle down, these chicks know what mama sounds, and feels like so they'll holler for her awhile but some water and food will have 'em forgetting mama soon enough.

these four are SO LOUD> Way louder then my other chicks were at this age. I only managed to get a few broken up hours of sleep. The incessant peeping kept me up! All four fared well. i went out today to hunt around again for the 5th but I'm thinking it's gone
