That is so sweet that Crackers has bonded with your son.

Great to hear he is eating his feed now. Keep close watch on it though with adding water it can mold pretty fast when hot out. You can add some ACV to his water feed and that will help some with the mold. and it's good for him too. Depending on how much water you put in Crackers feed bowl maybe use 1 teaspoon of ACV. I use ACV to make fermented feed for my flock and I put it in their drinking water a couple times a week too. Good all round tonic.

Well he still scratches like crazy, still does not like the pool so when I catch him and put him in the pool and I have to hold him and calm him down and it works for a little but the mites/fleas just run up to his neck and back,..we have little water bowl all over the yard they are big enough for him to get in them and he does, he forges a lot so we are always wetting down the yard,..he is eating seed now but what is ACV?

Apple Cider Vinegar. I wonder if you put him in one of those dishes you say are large enough for him to get into and put water and ACV into them so when he bathes maybe the ACV would kill the mites and fleas. They really need to get off of the duck they can make him Anemic.Will he dunk his whole body in these water bowls.?

This is so amusing! Only because I have been there. If it were me I would leave the guy alone and put him up at night with diatomaceous earth UNDER his bedding. I have had bird mites here and a wee bit of scratching but nothing like you describe. Reducing his stress and giving him the best food (especially for non laying ducks) and access to water will help the duck's natural defenses. Glad to know about the holding the duck's bill closed to dissuade nipping.

Those pictures are of "Shorty" sitting laying an egg in the morning at the college pond and the other is me feeding them seed at the pond and she is with Rocky that really kicks ass when another Mallard drake comes near her,..hence his name,..I now have 10 babies to feed at the college a Mallard had 10 babies and now she has 8 (someone said probably due to turtles) and 2 Canadian geese has 3 babies,.now down to 2 of them and I am on the rampage because a bus lady stopped the bus and told me "I see you here all the time and I want you to know 2 teenage boys were throwing the babies in the pond and kicking the ducks",..I went BALLISTIC ,..made a report, asked security to pull footage of the lake,..I KNOW who these kids are,..I saw them chasing the Mallards and I yelled "What the hell do you think you are doing" and they said "we are going to catch a duck" and I said "The hell you are,..they have babies and I am about to feed them so get the hell out of here",..they looked at me like,.."lady,..who the heck are you" (57yr old ex Paramedic/Firefighter),..someone that will kick your ASS!!!,..so yesterday one gosling was missing and my heart is broken,..they are come to me when I get there,...Shorty, Rocky, Mama (with 8 babies) and the 2 Canadian geese with their goslings,..but I am trying to get a picture of Crackers posted,..he follows my son everywhere but he walks in front of him and blocks him all the time,..then he charges at my dog but he doesn't do anything,.the minute you turn around he stops,..I think it is hallious,..I want to post some video but I am having so much trouble and I don't know why,..any advice (on EVERYTHING),.Crackers is still scratching a lot,...
