I re-clicked "Don't pause" and logged out and in again. I'll give it another try ...

The way that I understand mail subscriptions work:

- The user subscribes to a thread with immediate notifications
- The user gets sent the first notification right away
- If the user is not active on the site (logged in, clicking something) we pause notifications by default until they are active again (this is to keep them from coming back to 600 emails overnight, standard forum behavior)
- If the "don't pause" option is selected (it is OFF by default), it overrides this default and the user should get immediate notifications from all relevant subscriptions until this option is either deselected or they change their sub options. This often leads to an overwhelming amount of email in a short period of time on active threads.

So, the questions are:
  1. Are you set for receiving "immediate" subscriptions for your threads?
  2. Is the "no pause" option selected?
  3. Are you getting any email at all?

From what I know, if you have all that set, you should be getting a ton of emails. If you then uncheck the "do not pause" option, you should only get one email per subscription.

Logging in and logging out should not impact the system, but if you notice that it is, please continue to report it.

Last time I had "do not pause" checked I had a ZILLION emails letting me know about every post to every thread even if I hadn't checked in. But I've had that happen in the past, as a glitch I'm sure, so I'll try it again.

So at this point I am set for immeditate subscriptions. No pause. And I am getting email. One per thread so far.

Rest assured (is there ANY doubt ??? ), I'll keep you posted.

I asked our techs what "a while" means as it relates to the "no pause" option. Here is their reply:

Quote:
1) user receives one immediate notification email

2) system immediately puts them on pause
3) the next server request they generate should unpause them
4) they receive one more email... repeat

When pausing is disabled:
1) user should receive an unlimited* number of immediate notification emails whether they visit the site or not.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Only from this thread

1. Yes, immediate subscriptions set.

2. "No pause" NOW selected.

3. Yes, now I get email EVERY time someone posts to one of my subscriptions - even if I don't check in - and some of my threads are BUSY!!! My email runneth over ....
