Help - Stopped getting email subscription notifications - unsubscribing???

A few quick updates:    It seems there are at least a couple problems:  Emails not being sent & emails not being received by some email providers

  1. Not Received:  We use an email service that is tasked with using clean IP addresses, mail servers, etc. to increase the probability that your email service will accept and not reject our emails.  Some providers are more "strict" than others (AOL is an example).   We're constantly monitoring and doing all we can to try to make sure our emails get through.
  2. Not Sent:  This seems to be the main issue discussed in this thread.  I've been diligently keeping records of each thread I'm subscribed to and detailing when I receive them and when new posts are made.  I've isolated a handful of threads and cases where I'm definitely not getting the subscriptions when I should be.

Some very good news:  Our engineers have been looking into these issues and have duplicated the problem in # 2 (the main issue in this thread).  Now the challenge is to find the cause and fix it.  (See this post on the challenges of finding and fixing problems:  https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/618521/bugs-problems-with-the-new-platform/450#post_8382914 )

That's great news, Nifty - thanks very much for the update!

Ok, we're hoping this will be fixed on Tuesday!! It's amazing how tricky this stuff is to find and fix, but I think we've got it!

In a nutshell, here is the situation: Immediate subscription updates are designed, by default, not to deluge you with an unlimited number of emails. The default behavior is to pause a subscription after one email has been sent. When you next visit the site, we unpause that subscription and it resumes sending you notifications. This puts some limits in place to prevent a user from being overwhelmed by 100s of emails overnight. However, our last release (two weeks ago) altered this behavior unexpectedly. We failed to resume notifications when a suer visited the site. The only way to resume sending was to log out/in, which would kickstart notifications back to life. Most users rarely log out, so a lot of folks were missing some emails they expected to receive. We've fixed this now. Anytime you hit a page on the site it should "wake up" any paused subscriptions you have, and you'll resume receiving email.

Thanks for everybody's patience and help as we found ways to duplicate, isolate, and fix this problem!

This is great news! Does that mean it will work on AOL now?

Thanks so much, Nifty!
I have been receiving my notifications, for the most part, for the last three days now. Yesterday, I went back and unchecked the "don't pause" button. I immediately quit receiving ANY notifications! I rechecked it last night, logged out and back in, and am getting them again.

Ha ha! Be careful what you ask for!!! I made a lot of the changes and loggin out and back in and have now been getting notifications up the waah hoo! 50 and 60 a day. I get repeat ones for the same threads instead of the one until you visit thing. I will check later when I have more time to see if there is a box to check for only one! Nice to be back in the loop again though!
