Your hen could be suffering from a reproductive disorder (egg yolk peritonitis or cancer). Hens like this that came into the clinic I worked at would have fecal performed, bloodwork, and radiographs. Most were placed in a temp controlled O2 chamber to help stabilize them. Chickens are amazing creatures and make amazing recoveries if treatment is started in time. Ascites (swollen abdomen) can be caused my organ failure (liver, kidney, heart) and the crop is not working because her body just can't handle food at this point. Patients like this are given fluid either under the skin or intraosseous to help rehydrate the body and allowed to rest in an O2 chamber. So far you have been an excellent nurse and such care can really make a difference. What I like to use Exact handfeeding formula to my sick chickens. I feed them small amounts several times a day. It comes in a powder form and mix it according to directions.
