***Help*** Throwing Up Green liquid Crop very swollen and Mushy

Was the vomiting a small amount, like the crop emptying, or a larger amount, being brought up from further down the digestive tract?

If you smell her "breath" .. or smell up close to her beak when it is open, is there a nasty smell? This could be a sign of sour crop ...

Has she had access to a lot of grass, or lawn clippings?
Any chance she ate wet/moldy feed?

Sometimes they get large wads of grass stuck in their crop ... if this is the case, the crop will be swollen and foul-smelling, and it could lead to the greenish vomiting.

If that's what's going on, you could try holding her on her back, head somewhat down, and gently massage the crop.

You can also try to losen things up by forcing a small amount of olive oil into her beak with an eye dropper or a plastic syringe (non-needle irrigation syringe).

She is still throwing a little up after I massaged her crop. It is squishy and very hot,

Did any of the vomit look like undigested grass or veggies?

Also - since you don't know what this is, isolate her. You can offer water, or water/diluted pedialite, but withhold food.

Does the crop still seem swollen? Less so since she's vomited? No change?

Has she been eating grass?

In my limited experience, a common cause of greenish vomit is caused by a crop full of fermenting grass that is not passing though the digestive tract ...

If that is what's going on, periodically massage the crop with the bird head-down, and try to get a small amount of olive oil into her.

I have been holding her on my lap and massaging the crop. THe liquid is some clear then brown/dark greenish color. It has gone down a bit since a lot has come up. They eat grass every day when they are let out to roam for a couple hours (for years now -same thing). She pulls her head up when she starts to vomit as she seems really scared and reswallows some of it each time?

She is not interested in food at all nor water right now. Her tail is still upright and eye bright so not sure what to think??!!

I am so worried about her.

I just found this thread - if her crop has "rotten" stuff in it you need to get that out. Try massaging it "upward" to expel any nasty stuff, then give her a chance to rest before feeding olive oil soaked bread crumbs. You may need to get a syringe and squirt some olive oil down her throat, as she may not want to eat at all. Make sure you get way back behind the tongue - the breathing hole is under the tongue.

I just had to perform crop surgery on one of my hens but I would only suggest that as a last resort. Here's the link:

I would recommend first trying to get her to throw up all the foul liquid in her crop. To do this, hold her upside down being very careful to keep her head down at all times. You do NOT want her to lift her head and have the liquid run down her throat and risk getting in her lungs. While holding her upside down, massage the crop and gently massage the contents toward the head (which is upside down). It may take a few minutes. Be sure to hold her head down so she can't lift it. She will want to lift her head when the vomit starts coming out.

Then give her time to rest. Do not put any food or water in her cage (keep her isolated) at night and check her crop the next morning. It should be flat.

When you are massaging the crop, see if you can feel any mass of "stuff" in there that doesn't seem to be breaking up. In the case of my hen, I could feel what felt like a giant glob of playdough - I could move it around but I could not break it up and it did not go away overnight nor did it go away after several days of olive oil treatments.
