I've got a baby chick who's tongue is stuck in the throat. I tried to give her some food by using the torpedo method and noticed that her tongue is in her throat. I tried to pull the tongue towards me with tweezers and the tongue slips. Is there anything I can do to pull it out. Please help me out. It's been such a busy month with chicken sickness/chaos. :hit

Is this the same chick in your other thread?

Are sure there is nothing wrapped around the tongue? Sometimes a very fine piece of string or fiber could cause this if the chicken gets it stuck around her tongue and then swallows it.

Tagging a few other educators for more ideas @Wyorp Rock @azygous

Also look and see if there is a pocket in the bottom back of her mouth, the tongue may be falling into that if there is one

Some more pictures . . .

Yes it is the same chick. I do not know what caused it. I tried to feed her by using the torpedo method, which I was able to give her some but then noticed that her tongue wasn't there so I looked deeper inside.

Glad you found the issue, well part of it anyways. Let’s see if we can figure out what is going on for the tongue to be back there. The people tagged may have some more ideas, but all I’ve read about either a string gets stuck around the tongue, the chick swallows the string and it pulls the tongue back, preventing it from going back into the mouth or the tongue forms a pocket in the back of the throat that it ends up sitting in.

I know I sound like a broken record, but check very very closely for something wrapped around the tongue. Use different angles with your light. Get someone to help you if possible.
