Help! Unknown peacock malaise despite de-worming and coccidiosis treatment

If inserted would it reach his crop? And is the end smooth enough that it's not gonna hurt his throat?

-Kathy

It would reach his crop. It's actually more than 2 ft - I got it wrong. BUT I don't think I'd be comfortable putting it down his throat. It's just a cut end and I think it would hurt him to do it more than once. I'd do it if he was at death's door, but not otherwise.

But your guidance has been so helpful in showing me how to use the syringe. I'll let him recover for a couple of hours then give it another go.

Ahhhh that's so useful. So is that the only danger point? The hole at the back of the tongue?
That's where you don't want to put the tube, but it's almost impossible to get it in there. Another danger is filling too fast, too much, or not having the tube far enough down.

Recently I tried to tube feed a sick bird. Something went wrong and the bird coughed up some liquid. I stopped immediately. What did I do wrong? Any thoughts?

and this was my reply:
Quote:
A few things can cause the bird to vomit food.
1. Overfilling
2. Filling too fast
3. Tube not down far enough
4. Some sick birds can't hold very much
5. Pressure on crop from towel wrap or handling

If a large enough tube is used it's almost impossible to place it in the wrong hole (trachea). What type of chicken is it and how much does it weigh?
